9 EXCUSES FOR NOT STARTING UP YOUR BUSINESS WITH REASONS TO OVERCOME THEM

In recent times, people are constantly looking for ways to make additional income or earn a living because a regular 9 AM to 5 PM job is rarely sufficient or convenient. This is especially true for families with young children.

Not discarding the fact that in most instances it is so difficult to get a job let alone considering its convenience or sufficiency.

There are so many business ideas people could start up with to earn a living or make additional income.

Most people are aware of these business ideas but they have countless ‘’EXCUSES’’ why they’re laid back and why they won’t plunge into these opportunities and start a business.

I would be sharing some of these excuses and giving my reasons with scriptural backings on why people should give up those excuses.

SOME EXCUSES GIVEN BY PEOPLE FOR NOT STARTING UP A BUSINESS.

Let’s consider some examples of excuses people advance for not starting up businesses:

  1. WHAT IF IT DOESN’T WORK…I CAN’T STAND FAILURE.

It is OK to fail, everyone fails. Most successful people in the world failed so many times before they got it right. Don’t give up because you failed.

It doesn’t matter how many times you fail just keep trying, never give up…you only have to get it right once and no one will remember you failed.

Do not allow the fear of failure to deny you from your success and the great life ahead of you. As children of God, we have not been given you a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. (See 2 Timothy 1:7).

Failure is not all bad, it has some good effects. We get to learn important life lessons from failure that can’t be earned from success.

2. THIS BUSINESS IS BENEATH ME. I’M WAY TOO GOOD TO DO THAT.

A lot of people miss out on blessings and great opportunities because of such thoughts and excuses.

What if your blessings and your purpose are tied to that business? Is your pride worth losing out on your blessings and your purpose in life? These are questions you should ask yourself.

The Bible says pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall (see Proverbs 16:19).

Never look down on any business idea or opportunity especially if it has been placed on your heart by God.

My favorite scripture for this thought is in the book of 1Corinthians 1:28 which says ‘’God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things and the things that are not to nullify the things that are’’.

3. I’M NOT GOOD AT BUSINESS…SO I WON’T EVEN TRY.

You can be good at anything you set your mind to do.

And as I child of God, you are more at an advantage because you have THE POWER TO DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENS YOU. (See Philippians 4:13)

The world today is all about business. Every job out there is someone else business. Yes you are good at business you just haven’t found the right one yet or you just haven’t put your mind to it.

Don’t allow your mind to defeat you. Your failure or your success all starts from the mind…your thoughts. Take charge of your thoughts. Stand up against thoughts of defeat and incompetence.

4. I DON’T HAVE THE TIME TO DO IT… I AM SO OCCUPIED.

How important is earning a living or making an extra income to you?

How bad do you want to own a business and be your own boss?

These are good questions to ask yourself when you are trying to procrastinate or shove the idea of starting a business.

It is important to set our priorities right and to do that we need to consciously pay attention to the things we spend our time doing. If you do you will be surprised at your discovery.

Before I started blogging I always felt I had no time to start up my blog because I had a full-time job and an energetic toddler who keeps me completely occupied not to talk of the house chores and everything else. All these kept me from starting. I got convinced I needed to start regardless because God wanted me to. That made me ‘’ CREATE’’ the time.

I started by carrying out a little activity on a journal I bought called ‘’LESS IS MORE’’, where I had to track how I spent my time for 7 days. I put in everything that made up my day from the moment I woke up like praying and meditating, surfing the internet, reading emails, talking on the phone, watching TV, going out with friends, going to the gym, time spent with family, time spent on chores, etc.

Completing that activity made me realize I could absolutely ‘’CREATE’ ’time to start my blog. I had to cut down the time I spent on certain things especially going on social media, watching TV, Phone conversations and a little bit here and there. It wasn’t easy at all but I am so glad I started my blog and it gets easy day by day.

I encourage you to try the same activity out. It would help set your priorities.

One secret I have found is that God can multiply your time if you ask him. Hey! Don’t give up on me yet…what I mean is God can help us to be so productive and efficient that we accomplish so much in a day as we have never done before.

I ask him to help me with my time especially when I feel overwhelmed with my workload. Afterward, I just get this unusual strength and will power and it becomes so easy to figure things out.

Don’t let the time factor hold you back from starting your business. Deliberately create time and while at it ask God for his help in doing that.

5.  I HAVE NO IDEA ON WHAT TO DO.

This is an easy thought to resolve. The solution is to Pray and research it’s that simple.

God has permitted us in to consult him and he would give us great ideas.

Jeremiah 33:3 says ‘’call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know’’.

Calling unto good for your business idea is really important because he knows what is best for you and he would bless tremendously any business idea he lays on your heart. After praying and while waiting to hear from him you can carry out research on business ideas.

Just google “business ideas” and you would have so many ideas pop up.

You may end up getting confused with all the options available but not to worry because that is a confusion that God can easily solve. He would guide you to make the right choice.

6. WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY OR THINK IF THEY SEE ME DOING THIS.

This is one thought that has misled and prevented so many people from being successful and purposeful in life.

As far as I am concerned the only person that should give us concern about what he thinks is God.

Do not let the fear of what people will say stop you from being purposeful or successful. Don’t let their thoughts stop you from earning a living, putting food on your table or shelter over your head. As long as what you do is legitimate and approved by God you should have no business worrying over what people think.

Trust me the same people you are worried about won’t help you in solving your problems but will surely want to identify with you once you become successful in whatever business you do.

7. THERE IS TOO MUCH COMPETITION AND IT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG TO MAKE ANYTHING OUT OF IT.

The sky is full of stars that are identical but they all shine so brightly.

There is always enough space for everyone to succeed even if we are all doing the same thing.

Put your best efforts by being diligent and being very skilled and knowledgeable in your business that way you would stand out.

Proverbs 22:29 says ‘’Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.

8. I DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS TO START

A lot of people hold up starting their business because they expect to start big. You can start small.

Trust me its OK to start small. Oftentimes great things start small. The bible encourages us not to despise the days of small things or little beginnings. (See Zechariah 4:10)

There are so many business ideas you can start up with little or no money (Will write an article soon on some of these business ideas).

Ask God for the help you need. He can supply all our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. He is also able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power at work within us. (See Philippians 4:19 and Ephesians 3:20).

9. I DON’T HAVE THE ENERGY TO DO IT…I CAN’T BE BOTHERED.

Yes, you have the energy to do all that you want to do only if you put your mind to it.

Laziness has never helped anyone achieve anything.

God is seriously against laziness because no lazy person can ever accomplish their purpose here on earth.

Ask God for strength to do what you need to do because you cannot pray your way into and out of everything. Prayer is key to every success but it must be backed up with actions.

Even when you pray you must still apply the principles to success. These principles apply to everyone, whether you are a child of God or not.

Proverbs 13:4 says ‘’The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied’’.

Proverbs 10:4 says ‘’Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.

CONCLUSION:

Excuses are often born out of fear and sometimes laziness. They are so detrimental to our lives. Excuses kill your goals and dreams, it kills your self-worth then leaves you with nothing but regrets and a feeling of emptiness. Excuses will totally control your life if you let it.

WHY GIVE IT SO MUCH POWER OVER YOUR LIFE?

Ask God to help you overcome every limiting factor that may be holding you back. Be it time, funds, ideas, lack of will power, fear, etc.

God sure listens to us and he is always willing to help us figure things out as long as we are also willing to walk in obedience and take the necessary steps.

People who make efforts and take steps towards succeeding or earning a living tend to get more help from others than people who sit idle doing nothing.

GIVE UP ON THOSE EXCUSES AND MAKE EFFORTS.
